Campaign Notebook: McMahon Files Ethics Complaint Against Murphy

News and updates from the campaign trail in Connecticut.

Senate

Linda McMahon’s campaign filed an ethics complaint with the Office of Congressional Ethics, alleging that Chris Murphy received an overly generous home mortgage from Webster Bank. Both Murphy and the bank deny the accusations.

Politico reports that the impact of the complaint will be limited since the Office of Congressional is prohibited from acting on cases in the 60 days before an election.

Politico wrote, “the practical impact of McMahon’s complaint to the OCE is likely to be some bad headlines for Murphy rather than any significant legal problems.”

The full complaint was posted on Linda McMahon’s campaign website.

Third District

Rosa DeLauro (D) is a critic of U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan’s budgetary plan. Before Ryan became the vice presidential nominee, DeLauro addressed Congress earlier this year to say why she thinks the budget proposal doesn’t work. The video is on YouTube.

Wayne Winsley (R) will be joined by state Sen. John McKinney, Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton and other prominent Republicans for a “Stand Up for a Change”  comedy event at the Palace Theater in Danbury on Sept. 22. The fundraiser begins at 7:30 p.m.

How curious that Rosa DeLauro criticizes the “moral failings” of a government which its Founders never intended as a social welfare agency—yet she has no qualms about the immorality of using her public office as a self-enrichment scheme: “DeLauro...has grown financially fat by feeding off the body politic like an engorged tick on a basset hound. DeLauro has garnered millions from back-door deals, cronyism and insider-political-trading—while she portrays herself as a fighter for the downtrodden.” Wayne Winsley: [Delauro’s 3rd District opponent] http://easthaven.patch.com/blog_posts/the-delauro-factor-e5065dcd [See comments under linked article.]
