Candelora Promoted to Deputy Republican Leader

The state assemblyman who represents North Branford was elevated to a prominent post in the state House last week.

House Republican Leader Lawrence Cafero last week promoted State Rep.Vincent J. Candelora (R), who represents North Branford, East Haven, and Wallingford, to the post of Deputy Republican Leader at the state capitol.

Candelora's appointment was unanimously ratified by the 51-member Republican caucus.

"Vin Candelora brings a wealth of knowledge, talent, and enthusiasm to the position of Deputy Leader, " said Cafero in a statement. "I am going to rely heavily on him for his judgment and support in helping to shape our caucus policies and positions and decisionmaking during House sessions."

Candelora said he is eager to start working at a time when the state faces significant challenges — namely problems balancing its books.

"We need to make meaningful changes in the way we govern and as a leader of my caucus, I'm ready to work with others to offer sound solutions once again," Candelora said. "I look forward to working with Governor [Dan] Malloy and his administration on the state budget."
