North Branford's new automated trash pickup is underway. John's Refuse delivered most of the new toters last week and began automated collection with this morning's pickup. In Interim Town Manager Bonnie Therrien's weekly report (full report will run tomorrow), she noted that delivery of the toters was a day behind.
With the new single-stream recycling barrels, residents can place all recyclable items into the blue barrels (the brown barrels are for general trash). Not sure what you can recycle? Check out the attached PDFs.
When placing the barrels at the curb, John's Refuse requests you "keep the lids closed and place the barrels as close to the curb as possible oriented as shown on the barrel lids. Leave a little space between the Recycling Barrel and the Trash Barrel."
In addition to information about the new trash pickup, the PDFs also highlight other dates to remember, including trash holidays and weeks desginated for scrap metal collection and leaf collection. Bulky waste can be put out with your toters at any time.

other than that, I like them
The areas of Town that still need to received the new barrels are Seahill, West Pond, Southern Corners and Foxon Road. They will be delivering in these areas today and tomorrow. If you do not receive a barrel before your regular refuse day, please put out your old barrels. Also please call John's and let them know you did not receive a new barrel. If you feel you need a smaller sized barrel, please call John's Refuse at the phone # listed above. Bonnie Therrien, Interim Town Manager
The lids are not damaged, they are designed to flip closed and do not have any type of latch. In addition, there is really nothing to attach a bungee cord to in order to keep out the wildlife. On another point I called John for a smaller pail as we are big recyclers and do not fill up one small trash pail each week. They are only giving out smaller pails to people with physical disabilities at this time.
