North Branford Eye on the Beltway: Himes Remembers L'Ambiance Tragedy

And DeLauro, Murphy express their views on Twitter.

BLUMENTHAL: The senator used the 25th anniversary of Bridgeport's L'Ambiance tragedy to propose changes to how Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) develops and implements worker health and safety standards.

“Twenty five years after L'Ambiance, hardworking Americans are still endangered on the job because of outrageous delays in setting standards to stop death and injury,” he said in a statement released by his office. “Standards delayed mean safety denied. The L'Ambiance disaster shows the cost of inaction and real life consequences to workers and their families when the government fails in this most basic responsibility – protecting workers when employers unconscionably put profit above safety. Remembering the innocent victims of L'Ambiance, we bear witness to continuing unacceptable perils permitted at some work places, and the need to fight for adequate safety.”

According to the CT Post, Himes told the crowd not to "drift away from the fact that these were people. They had hobbies and quirks. They told good jokes and some bad jokes. They were husbands and dads. They were people."

DELAURO: The congresswoman went to Twitter on Tuesday to announce her position on the doubling of subsidized Stafford student loans:

"I stand with @RepJoeCourtney to stop the interest rate on student loans from doubling in July. #dontdoublemyrate"

MURPHY: The congressman was very active on Twitter on Tuesday. He sent the following tweet just before noon:

"Urging Sec. Panetta to crack down on Chinese counterfeit parts being used in U.S. military equipment. Costs jobs, tax $ and puts troops at risk."
