North Branford Looking To Crack Down On Prostitution, Human Trafficking

The council is considering an ordinance that would put tighter restrictions on massage parlors.

Tuesday night, the North Branford Town Council discussed creating an ordinance that would crack down on prostitution and human trafficking in massage parlors, after a perceived increase in both.

The New Haven Register reports that the council met with Michael Pascucilla, the director of health for the East Shore District Health Department, to talk about creating new regulations on massage parlors to ensure they are not participating in prostitution or human trafficking. Pascucilla said he knows of no such cases in town, but said it is better to be "proactive rather than reactive."

“We’re seeing a lot of prostitution, a lot of human trafficking, it’s been in the paper,” Pascucilla told the North Branford Town Council, according to the New Haven Register. “And through that discussion, we started out working with the town of Branford, working with their Police Department, having a few meetings. And when we looked around, it’s not just in Branford, but it’s everywhere.”
