Reminder: Budget Referendum Is May 14

The North Branford Town Council recommended a $48.8 million budget with a 29.1 mill rate last month. The mill rate remains despite potential state cuts as the Council decided to cut from capital in the event the town does not get the funding at house from the city in the past, which puts the budget at $48.6 million.

The budget goes to vote at referendum next Tuesday, May 14 from noon to 8 p.m. North Branford residents can vote at Jerome Harrison Elementary School, while Northford residents can vote at Stanley T. Williams.

The question on the ballot is: "Shall the Town Council Recommended Budget of $48,669,961, which will require a mill rate of 29.10 mills, be adopted?"

The referendum only needs to be acted on if 15 percent or more of the town's registered voters turn out to the polls. In the event that 15 percent do vote in the referendum, the Council must adjust the budget according the the results.

Will you be heading to the polls for the referendum?
