Routine Utility Work Being Done in Town

You may have noticed utility trucks around North Branford–here's why.

Driving around town the past few days, you may have noticed several utility trucks working on the utility poles and lines. Town Manager Richard Branigan reported that this is part of United Illuminating's maintenance program.

North Branford Police Department's Lieutenant David D'Ancicco said there are currently six crews working in town, all needing a police presence for safety. The shifts are first offered to officers in town, but when there's a bigger need, the NBPD enlists the help of North Haven Police Department.

"When we exhaust all our means, if we have overflow, we ask North Haven for officers and they do the same with us," said D'Ancicco. "We routinely work shifts at the North Haven Fair or other big things."

D'Ancicco noted that these are contracted jobs, which are billed to the utility company in this case.

"Even if my guys are there, it doesn’t cost the town a penny," said D'Ancicco. "It doesn’t cost the town anything for sidejobs."
