It's official: Ted Kennedy Jr. has tossed his hat into Connecticut's political arena.

The Branford resident — and son of the late and longtime serving Massachusetts U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy — announced early Tuesday evening at the Blackstone Library he is running for the shoreline's District 12 state senate seat.

The seat — which includes Branford, Guilford, Durham, Killingworth, Madison and North Branford — currently is held by Ed Meyers.

The Democrat, a Guilford resident, has held the post since 2005.

Last month, however, Meyers announced his retirement, leaving the spot open for a new shoreline politician to take the helm.

And so far, no one but Kennedy has officially announced they are running for Meyer's soon-to-be vacant post in the Connecticut General Assembly.

Only wish we knew what he has to offer all of us in the communities he would represent. I'm not much interested in "dropping names" or a popularity contest.

Hey Gina, you women better hope the apple hasn't fallen too far from the tree. There are a lot of bridges in the area.I wouldn't get in a car with him unless you have your scuba gear with you.

Just what we need in the CT State Senate . Another "lawyer" who never had to work a day in his life. I will guarantee you this is his first step to replace Rosa DeLauro Greenberg,if/when she decides to retire . Can we have real people represent us in Hartford , please ? If his name were Jones or Gonzalez, no one would care .

I'll bet that hat was from Vineyard Vines.
