Trashcan Coming to Supply Pond Entrance

By springtime, there will be a trashcan for those visiting the Branford Supply Pond.

There has been an ongoing debate about bringing trashcans to the Branford Supply Pond for some time – the matter was settled at the Feb. 6 Parks and Open Space Authority meeting and a trashcan has been ordered.

Ainsley Highman, chairman of the Parks and Open Space Authority, said the trash can should be delivered to the town in the next six to eight weeks and then it will have to be put in place, most likely using a cement base.

“It’s from a company that makes bear-proof trash cans so it’s relatively indestructible,” said Highman. “We’ve been talking about it for a while, but it was a big decision as it was an expensive purchase.”

The trashcan was paid for with the Parks and Open Space Authority’s budget and will be placed at the main entrance to the trails at Branford Supply Pond. Highman said they are also considering investing in a dog waste bag dispenser as well.

“We’ve found that some people scoop up their dog’s mess but leave the bags with the dog poop on the trail or in the parking lot,” said Highman. “We’re hoping that ends with the placement of the trash can.”

Hi Bill. The new trashcan will be cemented into place. It's more of a trash receptacle vs. a typical trashcan.

Not a trash can. For dog waste only

I don't understand the problem and why this is such an ordeal. We have garbage cans, for whatever use, all over town at fields and parks and street corners. Since Supply Pond is apparently the only that gets vandalized once, just chain lock a couple of them to a pole or tree at a couple of spots. This shouldn't require an act of congress.

The correct spelling of the word is "trash can"... not "trashcan."
