Garden Street Report Listed on Tonight's Village Agenda

Brewster officials would oversee any zoning changes, while the school district owns the building.

An official report focused on the future of Garden Street School is the first item on the agenda for Wednesday evening's meeting of the Village of Brewster Board of Trustees.

Prepared by Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress, a Newburgh-based nonprofit research, policy and planning group, the document is expected to detail possible uses of the building, which is owned by the Brewster Central School District.

The village, which would oversee any zoning changes related to the building, entered into an agreement with the nonprofit in summer 2012. It calls for the study of several local issues: "adaptive reuse" of Garden Street, neighborhood blight, transit-oriented development, as well as community development and grant-writing. The process has involved a community visioning session, input from developers and more.

The school district is funding a portion of the costs related to the Garden Street component study.

The board is slated to gather for a 7:30 meeting at Village Hall this evening. Here is the agenda, as provided by Clerk Peter Hansen:

1.      Pattern for Progress Report, Garden Street School component
