North Branford resident and Drexel Student David Ventura wins 2012 IEEE PES Scholarship Award.

 

North Branford resident David Ventura, an engineering student at Drexel University, has been selected to receive a scholarship as part of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' (IEEE) Power & Energy Society (PES) Scholarship Plus Initiative. The IEEE PES provides scholarships and real world experience to high-achieving undergraduate students who are interested in power and energy engineering careers.

David Ventura is a senior majoring in electrical engineering. He was one of 15 Drexel students selected to receive the IEEE PES scholarship.

Recipients were selected from 109 U.S. universities. Drexel had the most scholarship winners among engineering programs throughout the country.

Students were selected by representatives of industry and academia based on criteria including academic preparation, extra-curricular activities and leadership. The IEEE committee also looked at the candidates' interest in the field of power and energy engineering and assessed their potential to develop a successful power and energy engineering career.

The IEEE PES provides the world's largest forum for sharing the latest in technological developments in the electric power industry, for developing standards that guide the development and construction of equipment and systems and for educating members of the industry and the general public.
