“I really enjoy animals and wanted to do something to help them,” said DiMartino. “I wanted to do something nearby in the community and thought the shelter would be good because so many animals need homes.”

DiMartino set a goal of $150 and raised just less than $200 by soliciting donations from family and local businesses including DiMartino Home Improvement and Pet Shield.

“I felt really accomplished because I didn’t think I’d be able to do that all by myself,” said DiMartino, who has her own dog.

DiMartino said that she and a friend are hoping to volunteer at the shelter this summer. The Big Give marked her first time fundraising and she learned valuable lessons from the experience.

“It shows if we all work together we can accomplish something,” said DiMartino. “I hope to do the Big Give again in the future. I like knowing I can help someone out, not just the animals, but the people who work there, too.”
