North Branford Boys' Lacrosse Showing Marked Improvement

The North Branford High School boys' lacrosse team is 3-2 with eight games to play in 2012.

has a new team on the field this season–boys' lacrosse. While the program is still operating under club status this season, is seeing solid effort and steady improvement and hopes to make the leap to varsity next year.

The T-Birds hold a 3-2 record with eight games to play. Just yesterday, North Branford handed top-ranked Haddam-Killingworth 5-4.

"It was a great team effort from both the offense and the defense," said Rapuano.

They started the season with a 9-1 loss to Lyman Hall. After being edged by Valley 5-4, North Branford took a 6-5 overtime win over Sheehan.

North Branford's hard work then paid off as the T-Birds avenged their early loss to Lyman Hall by taking a 12-6 win in their most game.

"We're doing very well," said Rapuano. "All the fundamentals are in place. Everybody is behind us and seems to love what we’re doing. Parents are supportive and we have good crowds at our home games."

There are 17 on the roster, including four seniors, two sophomores and 11 freshmen. Kevin Odell is the assistant coach. John Burke is the team's goalie and has stepped up as a leader on the field, according to Rapuano.

"It really has been a team effort and every game is different," said Rapuano. "I'm really proud of the guys for coming together. Everyone plays hard for each other."
