North Branford Cross-Country and Volleyball Finish 2012 Seasons

Though some fall teams are finished for the season, several others are preparing for postseason play.

 

The 2012 fall season has come to an end for several North Branford teams as the girls' soccer squad finished at 4-12 and the volleyball team had a 3-15 record. The cross-country squad ended on a successful note at the state championships.

The season is still in full swing for the undefeated football team and boys' soccer and field hockey both qualified for the state tournament with pairings being announced on Wednesday, Nov. 7.

Cross-Country

The cross-country teams competed in the CIAC Division SS Cross-Country Championship Meet on Oct. 27 at Wickham Park in Manchester.  The boys finished 11th out of 26 teams (177 runners). 

“As in previous races throughout the season, the kids put in a great effort for the final race,” said Coach Floyd Parness.

Co-captain Ryan Proto paced the T-Birds with a 32nd-place finish with a time of 18:34 followed by co-captain Sean O’Connor (35th, 18:43) and Jason Conforte (40th, 18:48). Other finishers for the T-Birds were Zach Augur 19:43 (75th), Isaac Cammarata 21:31 (139th), Chris Olsen 22:01 (157th) and Ben Boatman 24:47 (170th). 

Marissa Bale led the girls’ team, finishing in 24:01 for 68th place. Also finishing for the girls were co-captain Chelsea Meagher 25:09 (98th), Rachel Sauro 27:42 (127th) and Sydney Lane 28:16 (135th).

Volleyball

The North Branford volleyball team closed out the season with a 3-15 record, falling to undefeated Morgan 3-0 and then dropping a 3-0 decision to Old Lyme.

On Oct. 24, North Branford traveled to Morgan, falling 25-15, 25-11, 25-13. Kayla Nowak led the T-Birds with five kills, two blocks and an ace. Tori Ramada had seven assists and two digs, Deanna Gallo had two kills and eight digs and Julia Reis had nine digs.

Against Old Lyme (9-9), North Branford fell 25-12, 25-19 and 28-26. Reis contributed 15 digs. Nowak had five kills, a solo block and an ace, Gallo had three kills, seven aces and three digs and Tori Ramada had seven assists and three aces.
