North Branford Cross-Country Finishes 2011 Season at States

The T-Birds' boys' team placed 10th, while the girls' team was 14th.

On Nov. 8, the North Branford cross-country teams competed at Hammonasset State Park in the Class SS Cross-Country State Championships.

“As in throughout the season, the kids put in a great effort for the final race,” said Coach Floyd Parness.

The boys competed in a 23-team, 158-runner field and came away with a 10th-place finish. Co-captain was the top finisher for North Branford as his time of 17:58 was good for 33rd place.

Co-captain Ryan Proto was the next T-Bird across the line, taking 52nd place in 18:37 with Jason Conforte (55th, 18:43) and Sean O’Connor (58th, 18:48) right behind him.

Zach Augur (19:43, 88th), Chris Olsen (20:55, 118th) and Ben Boatman (23:02, 145th) rounded out the finishers for the North Branford boys’ team.

There were 112 runners in the girls’ race with 16 teams competing. The T-Birds placed 14th.

Marissa Bale led the pack for North Branford. Her pace of 23:11 earned 46th place. Megan Rabuffo (73rd, 25:16), Chelsea Meagher (76th, 25:25) and Sydney Lane (25:41, 80th) and Megan Oakes (26:12, 84th) all finished within a minute of each other. Taylor Krista’s time of 29:07 was good for 96th place.
