North Branford Field Hockey Heads to State Semifinals

The T-Birds' field hockey team took a win over HK, while the girls' soccer team's season ended with a 3-0 loss in the second round of states.

The North Branford field hockey team began in the quarterfinals after a bye in the first round. The T-Birds matched up against Shoreline Conference rival Haddam-Killingworth. 

The top-seeded undefeated North Branford team hosted the eighth-seeded Cougars, a team the T-Birds beat twice during the regular season.

HK put North Branford in an unfamiliar place–behind. The Cougars' Marissa Moncata gave her team the lead off an assist from Sammy Waskowitz with 9:23 to play in the first half.

North Branford rallied and with just 28 seconds before halftime, Cassidy Norton fed , who netted a goal to tie it.

Not even two minutes into the second half, Bailey McGinnis scored an unassisted goal, which held up as the game-winner. 

The T-Birds move on to the semifinals where they will face Lauralton Hall (14-0-3-1), the No. 4 seed, on Nov. 15. The championship game will be played at Wethersfield on Nov. 19.

Girls' Soccer

After taking a , the No. 15 seed North Branford girls' soccer team earned a place in the second round against one of Class M's top teams.

North Branford traveled to Granby Memorial, the second-ranked team which had a 15-0-1 regular-season record. The T-Birds' season ended with a 3-0 loss.
