North Branford Girls’ Soccer Splits Recent Pair

The T-Birds fell to Valley but came back to shut out Hale Ray. North Branford will also host a bake sale and raffle in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Friday's game.

The North Branford , which started the season with four straight victories, went without a win in its last four games, tying Cromwell and and falling to HK and most recently Valley Regional. The T-Birds bounced back with a dominating 4-0 win over Hale Ray under their home lights on Oct. 8 to stand at 5-2-2.

On Oct. 5, North Branford dropped a 2-0 decision to Valley, which improved to 5-4-1 with the win. The Warriors outshot the T-Birds 4-3 with Emily LeGrand and Chelsea Cook both scoring for Valley in the second half. Katelyn Pantera had two saves for North Branford.

"Our team struggled today generating offensive opportunities, while having a couple of defensive breakdowns late in the second half,” said Coach Rick Geremia.

The T-Birds stopped their slide on Oct. 8 in dominating fashion as they took a 4-0 home win over Hale Ray. The offense was certainly back on track as North Branford outshot its visitors 30-7. Pantera and Stephanie Torniero split time in goal with each making three saves.

North Branford got on the board early as Kelly Kennedy scored just 3:24 into the game off an assist from Sarah McDonald. With about seven minutes to play in the first half, Miranda Jassil cushioned the T-Birds’ lead with a goal assisted by Emmy Dulak.

Up 2-0, North Branford didn’t let up heading into the second half. Five minutes in, Kennedy set up Alecia Canfield for the T-Birds’ third goal. Jessica Iannucci rounded out North Branford’s scoring with a goal at the 76:35 mark to cap the 4-0 win.

“This was an overall great team effort,” said Geremia. “Both our offense and defense came to play today.”

North Branford takes the field today, Oct. 11, at 3:45 p.m. as the T-Birds host East Hampton. North Branford then seeks to avenge its early season 1-1 tie against Cromwell with a 6:30 p.m. contest on Friday, Oct. 14 at home on Colafati Field at NBHS.

In addition to their pink, breast cancer ribbon socks, the T-Birds will also be hosting a bake sale and raffle at the Oct. 14 game to benefit Breast Cancer Awareness. Wear your pink to show your support.
