North Branford Girls’ Soccer Stands at 7-3-2

The T-Birds went 2-1 in recent action and raised more than $300 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

In the past week, the has not only gone 2-1, but they also hosted a , raising more than $300 for the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation (TBBCF).

North Branford hosted East Hampton on Oct. 12 and took a 4-1 victory behind three first-half goals. Kelly Kennedy put the T-Birds on the scoreboard early, just 4:07 into the game off an assist from Sarah McDonald.

East Hampton held off the T-Birds for the next 25 minutes before North Branford scored two quick goals­–the first by Miranda Jassil assisted by Sam Stowe at the 30:15-mark and the next by Kennedy off an assist from Stephanie Sileo just three minutes later.

In the second half, East Hampton got one back 2:18 into the frame, but the T-Birds didn’t allow the visitors to score again while tacking on another goal of their own with 6:36 remaining in the game. Stowe rounded out the scoring with Alecia Canfield notching the assist.

North Branford outshot East Hampton 15-6. Katelyn Pantera and Stephanie Torniero split time in net, making two saves apiece.

“Our offense is starting to gel and our defense and goalkeepers are playing solid,” said Coach Rick Geremia.

Two days later, the rain let up enough to allow North Branford to host Cromwell under the lights. While the T-Birds were busy on the field, the JV team and parent volunteers were busy with a bake sale and raffles.

Cromwell scored with 13:25 on the clock and carried its 1-0 lead into the second half. Just five minutes into the second half, Cromwell padded its lead with another goal, but North Branford was undeterred with Kennedy burying an unassisted goal to cut it to 2-1. About 10 minutes later, Emmy Dulak scored off a feed from Hailey Paternoster. With less than five minutes to play, Dulak scored the game-winner, this time assisted by Stowe.

North Branford outshot Cromwell 20-6 with Pantera and Torniero again splitting time in net with both making two saves.

On Oct. 18, Coginchaug improved to 9-2-1 with a 3-0 win over North Branford, which now stands at 7-3-2. The Blue Devils outshot the T-Birds 14-8. Pantera made 11 saves in the contest.

The T-Birds next travel to Haddam-Killingworth on Friday, Oct. 21 for a 5 p.m. contest.
