North Branford Girls’ Track Splits Recent Meet

The T-Birds beat Cromwell but fell to Morgan in the April 24 meet.

The traveled to Clinton to compete in a tri-meet against Shoreline Conference teams Cromwell and Morgan. North Branford lost to Morgan 80-45 and beat Cromwell 67-64. 

Six individual T-Birds and one relay team swept first-place finishes against both teams. North Branford throwers were dominant with victories by Jessica Wharton in the shot put (28-6), Jaimy Rippe in the discus (66-7 ½) and Stephanie Torniero in the javelin (84-2). Co-Captain Jordan Miket took first in the high jump at 4-8, which qualified her for the Class M State Championship.

In the running events, first-place finishes were achieved by co-captain Sarah McDonald in the 3,200, Natalie Baughan in the 100 (13.53) and the 4x800 relay team of Marissa Bale, Chelsea Meagher, Megan Oakes and Hayley Gomez.

Second-place sweeps were achieved by Rippe in the shot put (23-4), Torniero in the discus (58-7 ½), McDonald in the 1,600 (6:24.2), Miket in the 200 (28.6), Rachel Boyers in the 300 hurdles (53.8), Baughan in the long jump (13-1) and Bale in the 800 (3:01.3).
