Change to North Branford School Calendar: School in Session on March 28

Due to hurricane days and a snow day, a professional development day on March 28 has been changed to a regular school day.

Superintendent Scott Schoonmaker distributed the following letter to students prior to the December break:

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As of this writing, the North Branford Public Schools has expended four hurricane weather days and one snow day. This will leave the district with just one snow day remaining in the 2012/2013 school year. The district calendar allows for a total of six snow days before taking days from the end of the April 2013 recess.

In an effort to reduce the likelihood of impacting the April 2013 recess, the Board of Education has elected to convert March 28, 2013 to a full academic student day. The calendar originally included this day as a professional development day for teachers. This will leave us with two remaining snow days for the 2012/2013 school year.

We feel that this decision is in the best interest of both students and staff and we will keep you informed regarding additional snow days and their potential impact on the April 2013 spring recess. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Sincerely,

Scott Schoonmaker
Superintendent of Schools
