North Branford T-Birds’ Football Tops Morgan

The T-Birds came out strong, taking a 20-0 first-quarter lead. Dale Hausman put North Branford on the board with a 20-yard run. Brandan Basil then connected with Joe Delucia on a 22-yard pass before hitting Chris Caron for 10 yards for another score.

North Branford added three more TDs in the second frame to swell the lead to 41-0. Basil again took to the air, this time pairing with Hausman for a 43-yard touchdown. Delucia ran the next two scores in, on runs of 10 yards and 78 yards.

Morgan’s Dan Zumpano’s 25-yard pass to Nick Schnieder gave the Huskies a touchdown before halftime.

The T-Birds came out of halftime to score twice more–the first on a one-yard run by Hausman and the second on a 20-yard run by Caron. Ryan Magnotti made seven of eight PATs for the T-Birds.

The Huskies put one more touchdown on the scoreboard in the final quarter when Rob Cuesta returned a fumble for 54 yards as North Branford took a 55-12 win.

Basil had a solid game at QB, throwing 8-for-14 for 173 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions. On the ground, he had four carries for 30 yard. Delucia led the ground attack with five carries for 121 yards and two touchdowns. He also had two receptions for 31 yards and a score.

Hausman’s five carries totaled 50 yards and two TDs, while he also had a 43-yard touchdown reception. Caron had three carries for 41 yards and a score and two receptions for 26 yards and another TD. Onofrio had two receptions for 71 yards and Nick Sagnella had three carries for 28 yards.

Defensively, Anthony Franco led North Branford with 14 tackles. Mitch Mongillo had five tackles and a sack. Damoy Hunter had five tackles, Gary Falanga and Alex McGuigan each had four tackles with McGuigan also adding an interception. Tom Steinke had an interception and John Burke had a fumble recovery.
