PLB Gives Big to Massaro Family

When it came to choosing a recipient for their fundraising efforts through ’s Student Council’s project, three juniors decided they wanted to make an impact on someone in town.

Team members of PLB– Michaela Parisi, Sydney Lane and Candace Ballantoni–knew their best friend Alexa Picciuto’s neighbor Lisa Massaro was battling ovarian cancer. Massaro passed away in January and PLB has been busy raising money for the Alexander J. Massaro Fund. Alexander is Lisa’s six-year-old son.

“Knowing exactly who were are helping really motivates us to raise even more,” said Lane. “We’d like to reach $500 and we know it’s a big goal, but hopefully we’ll be able to do it.”

PLB has been selling baked good at the T-Birds’ home games and are in the midst of a ‘Hat Day’ fundraiser. Through Thursday, Feb. 9, students and staff can buy a wristband that allows them to wear a hat to school on Friday, Feb. 10.

The group is also working with Picciuto’s mom, , on other fundraising ideas.

Lane said that she and her teammates are enjoying being a part of the Big Give. They did not take part in the as they were not members of Student Council as freshman, but they are grateful to be a part of the movement this year.

“It’s important to help other people and it makes you feel good about yourself,” said Lane.
