Snow Days Extend Graduation to June 24 and Delay CMTs

This winter's onslaught of snowstorms has caused the district to push back CMT testing to the last possible date.

Seven snow days has pushed back the last day of school for North Branford students to June 24, Superintendent Scott Schoonmaker said.

Also, what would have been the first day of spring recess, Monday, April 18, will be a school day, he said.

“We stated in the calendar that we’d take days from April,” Schoonmaker said of the decision to leave February’s winter recess – which runs from Feb. 21 to Feb. 25 – intact. “You’re not in a safe zone with February, with winter weather in March,” he said.

Students were originally scheduled to end school on June 16, Schoonmaker said.

He said Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) evaluations are being bumped to the last possible day. There is a window of 20 days – from March 2 to March 29 – when the tests can be administered, Schoonmaker said. He said there are many other districts postponing CMT testing to the end of March.
