T-Birds’ Girls’ Soccer Ready for Shoreline Conference Tourney

The North Branford girls' soccer team closed the regular season with a Senior Night win over Valley and takes on Portland in Shorelines today.

Going 3-0-1 in the last four regular-season games, the North Branford  finished with a 10-4-2 record and is ready for the Shoreline Conference Tournament. The T-Birds, seeded third, travel to second-seeded Portland on Nov. 3 at 3 p.m. North Branford faced this season and took a 2-0 win.

Oct. 21: North Branford 2, HK 0

Against HK, the T-Birds scored a goal in each half. Alecia Canfield scored 16:41 into the first half off an assist from Emmy Dulak. The T-Birds scored almost 15 minutes into the second half, this time when scored from Rachel Boyers.

North Branford outshot HK 12-11 with the T-Birds’ Katelyn Pantera making seven saves.

“Katelyn Pantera played one of her best games of the season, recording her fourth shutout,” said Coach Rick Geremia.

Oct. 26: North Branford 0, Morgan 0 (OT)

North Branford took on Shoreline Conference foe Morgan at Indian River Complex for the first game ever played on IRC’s new turf field. The teams battled through regulation and overtime to a 0-0 tie.

The T-Birds had the advantage in the shooting column, with a 13-8 edge. Pantera had seven saves.

Oct. 28: North Branford 2, Old Lyme 0

A 2-0 win over another perennial rival–Old Lyme–secured North Branford’s berth in the Shoreline Conference Tournament. North Branford outshot Old Lyme 10-5 with Pantera notching five saves.

Through much of the first half, there was a deadlock, but at the 33:34-mark, Kelly Kennedy broke through off an assist from Shannon Anderson to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. Anderson then netted a goal of her own just more than six minutes into the second half with Canfield earning the assist.

Nov. 1: North Branford 1, Valley 0

To close out the regular season, North Branford earned a Senior Night win over Valley as Kennedy scored 12:49 into the second half assisted by Canfield. It also marked Kennedy’s seventh goal of the season to lead the T-Birds in scoring.

The T-Birds outshot Valley 12-3 with Stephanie Torniero making three saves in goal for North Branford.
