Meghan Ruszczyk was proud of the in her first season as head coach despite the team’s 2-16 record. The T-Birds earned their two wins with a season sweep of Hyde, winning 3-2 on Sept. 29 and 3-1 on Oct. 21.
“Despite our record, the girls kept a positive attitude throughout the season, never gave up and approached every game as a learning experience and a chance to get better,” said Ruszczyk.
North Branford had just three seniors on the squad this year and the trio of led the team as captains.
“The captains are a close-knit group that brought spirit and leadership to the team,” said Ruszczyk.
While North Branford will miss the leadership of its senior captains, two young players stood out this year and Ruszczyk expects big things from them in 2012.
“Freshman Deanna Gallo was an outstanding all-around player and sophomore Kayla Nowak led the team with hitting and blocking,” said Ruszczyk. “I enjoyed the season and I'm looking forward to next year.”
