Water Issues at JHS Soon to Be Resolved

An old pump and corroded pipes caused minor disruption, but all issues should be taken care of by the end of the day.

Corroded pipes and an old pump have caused some minor water issues at over the past few weeks. According to Superintendent Scott Schoonmaker, the pump broke three weeks ago.

"The original pump was 15 years old and had reached the end of its life," said Schoonmaker.

He reported that after the original pump broke, a licensed plumber on staff was able to patch the part with an alternate pump while they waited for the new pump and parts.

In the meantime in order to prepare to install the new pump, some of the pipes had to be replaced.

"Some of the pipes had fully disintegrated," said Schoonmaker. "We weren't aware the pipes were that corroded."

The corroded pipes caused the water pressure to drop earlier in the day, but the pressure is currently at about 90 percent and should be fully restored by the end of the school day, according to Schoonmaker.

He also noted that the fire suppression system is 100 percent functional as it runs off a different water supply.

"The school is fully functioning and the children are fine," said Schoonmaker. "This has only caused minor disruptions."
