Coginchaug Tops North Branford in Shoreline Conference Girls' Soccer Finals

The Blue Devils scored a goal in each half to earn the Shoreline Conference crown on Nov. 7.

The Coginchaug girls' soccer team, the No. 1 seed in the Shoreline Conference with a 13-2-2 record, took a 2-0 win over North Branford in the Shoreline Conference Tournament on Nov. 7 in front of a large crowd at Cromwell High School.

After North Branford goalkeeper Katelyn Pantera turned away a Coginchaug penalty kick about midway through the first half, the Blue Devils broke the scoreless tie. Victoria Buonanni fed the ball into the box where Kimberly Romanoff settled it and crossed it into the far corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.

The teams battled it out through the remainder of the first half and much of the second before Coginchaug added to its lead with 11:59 remaining on the clock. Jessica Solomon passed to Lauren Esposito, who beat her defenders to go one-on-one with Pantera. Esposito took aim down low and netted the Blue Devils' second score of the night.
