North Branford Football Improves to 2-0 With Win Over Ellington/Somers

The T-Birds earned a 14-6 win in their second game of the 2013 season.


The North Branford football team traveled to Ellington to take on Ellington/ Somers on Sept. 21 and came home with a 14-6 win to hold a 2-0 record in the 2013 season.

All of the scoring happened in the first quarter with the T-Birds taking the first two touchdowns with rushes by Shelby Franklin and Eddie Miller. Franklin added a two-point conversion.

Ellington/ Somers cut North Branford's lead to 14-6 just before the end of the first quarter.

Josh Melaccio led the T-Birds in rushing with 71 yards, followed by Franklin with 66, Cory Seymour with 56 and Miller with 39. Miller was 6-for-11 passing.

Greg Woodin and Mike Kaiser led North Branford's defense with eight tackles apiece. Franklin and Nick Sagnella each had seven, Joe Ferreira had six and Seymour, Austin Calamita and John Burke each had five. 

Next up, North Branford hosts Gilbert/ Northwest Regional on Friday, Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m. Gilbert is also 2-0 so far in 2013.
