Rob Martino Crowned Shoreline Champ in 100-Meter Dash

North Branford High School students competed in the Shoreline Championships at East Hampton High School.

The sun was finally shining and students from competed at East Hampton High School in the Shoreline Championships on May 25. Athletes represented their school well in all of the events they entered.

Robert Martino was crowned the Shoreline Conference champion in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.19. He also placed fifth in the 200 (23.15) and sixth in the long jump (19-6 ¾).

The boys’ 4x100 relay team of Michael Mercier, Corey Onofrio, Rocco Morgan and Martino placed third with a time of 45.18. Gary Falanga was fifth in the 400 (53.63).

Morgan was seventh in the shot put (39-5) and Joe DeLucia was eighth in the pole vault, clearing 11-6. Jack White took eighth in the discus (105-8). In the javelin, Sal Varca took seventh (142-1) and Joe Griskauskas followed in eighth (135-0).

On the girls’ side, Alyssa Arre took third in the 800 (2:26.4). Rachel Boyers was fourth in both the 100 high hurdles (16.88) and 300 hurdles (50.83). Lauren Vorio cleared 4-10 in the high jump to place fourth and jumped 14-6 in the triple jump for eighth place.

Jenny Sabetta’s throw of 77-5 in the discus earned her fourth place, while Stephanie Torniero was sixth in the javelin (85-1). Sarah McDonald finished sixth in the 3,200 (12:50.89) and Jess Wharton’s throw of 28-2 was good for sixth in the shot put.
