T-Birds’ State Tournament Round-Up
North Branford High School saw several teams earn a berth in the state tournament including softball, baseball and lacrosse as well as several track standouts.
It has been a successful spring sports season for and the baseball team has kept its season alive into the state quarterfinals, while the girls' lacrosse team fights to keep it going with a home game today at 4 p.m.
Baseball
The T-Birds ended the regular season with a 16-4 record to earn the No. 3 seed in the Class M State Tournament, but before they got into state tourney action, they competed in the Shoreline Conference Tournament, being edged in the .

In the first round, North Branford was pitted against a familiar rival in Route 80 neighbor East Haven, which was ranked 30th with an 8-12 regular-season record. Two of East Haven’s wins, though, came by defeating North Branford, including an to start the season. The T-Birds won when it counted, topping the Yellowjackets 2-1 in first-round action on May 31.
North Branford then hosted 14th-seeded Granby Memorial (12-7) in the second round. In another home game on June 1, North Branford kept its season alive by topping Granby Memorial 11-2 to advance to the quarterfinals, where the T-Birds will take on No. 22 seed Seymour (11-8), which upset 11th-seeded HK in the first round and sixth-seeded Wilcox Tech in the second round.

Softball
In the Class M State Tournament, North Branford poured on the offense as the T-Birds earned a over 17th-seeded Nonnewaug (14-6) yesterday.
The 16th-seeded T-Birds–who also had a 14-6 regular-season record and fell in the semifinals of the Shoreline Conference Tournament–were then pitted against top-seeded Seymour (19-1), which put an end to North Branford’s season as the host handed the T-Birds a 10-2 loss.
Lacrosse
With a 12-4 regular-season record, the earned the No. 4 seed in Division S and is slated to take on No. 13 seeded Old Lyme (6-9-1) today, June 2, at home at 4 p.m.
Boys’ Track
The boys’ track team saw several strong showings at the Class M State Championships where the T-Birds came away with 10 points and 23rd place in the 28-team field. The Championships followed the , where athletes on both the boys' and girls' team shined.
Joe DeLucia was the top finisher for North Branford as he cleared 12-6 in the pole vault, which was good for third place. Robert Martino was fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.49, just .18 away from the first-place time. Martino also competed in the long jump, taking 11th (17-10).
Girls’ Track
North Branford will send its girls’ track team to Willowbrook Park in New Britain today to compete in the Class S State Championships.
Golf
Qualifying golfers will be announced later today.
