T-Birds' Football Rallies to Top Old Saybrook

The North Branford football team came from behind to beat Old Saybrook-Westbrook and improve to 4-0.


The North Branford football team traveled to Old Saybrook on Oct. 5 to take on the Old Saybrook-Westbrook football team. Despite trailing heading into the fourth quarter, the T-Birds rallied to take a 29-22 victory and remain unbeaten in 2013.

OSW scored first, going up 2-0 on a safety in the second quarter. North Branford responded when Eddie Miller connected with Nick Schneidt on a nine-yard pass before hitting Austin Calamita on the two-point conversion. 

OSW opened the second half with two touchdowns. Cory Seymour then ran in a seven-yard score for the T-Birds before the home team punched in another TD for a 22-14 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

With the pressure on, North Branford came back to score two touchdowns and the T-Birds' defense shut down OSW for the 29-22 win. Miller threw for both scores, first hitting Tyler Hawk for 55 yards and then connecting with Schneidt for 34 yards.

Miller from 15-for-24 passing for 231 yards to go with 92 rushing yards. Top receivers for the game were Calamita with 70 yards, Shelby Franklin with 62, Tyler Hawk with 55 and Schneidt with 43.

Joe Ferreira and Mike Kaiser led the defense with 14 tackles each. Franklin (7), John Burke (6) and Lou Distasio (5) also contributed defensively.
