Manchester Goes to the Dogs [VIDEO]

The town opened its first dog park Sunday at Mt. Nebo Park on Spring Street.

It's not even the dog days of summer yet, but you couldn't tell Sunday at as the town and the Manchester Dog Owners Group cut the ribbon on the first dog park in Manchester.

More than 100 people, some totting multiple dogs apiece, filled the park Sunday afternoon to await the dog park's grand opening. There were so many dogs present that organizers had to let them go into the park in shifts of 20 at first.

"It's a great community amenity for the town of Manchester," said Alysia Duke, president of MDOG. "Obviously by the turnout a lot of people in the area are looking to have a dog park. And it's not just for the dogs, it's a great place for you to meet other people that have the same interests as you."

After the crowds and commotion from the grand opening subside, town officials said the dog park will be open daily from dawn to dusk. Plans call for two sections of the dog park when it is fully completed, the 0.4-acre fenced in area that would be for “small dogs" when all is said and done, but currently serves as the main park, and a 0.9-acre fenced in area for “large dogs.” The second phase is expected to be completed by 2014 if fund raising efforts for MDOG go well.

Awesome day! Congrats to everyone who worked so hard to bring this to Manchester. It's this kind of unique thinking that we need to embrace to make our town grow!! Thanks MDOG. We are excited to go back!

Pat, I think your dog and my dog, Noel, met while we were waiting to get into the park today. Hopefully, they can get some playtime together soon.
