Update: Donations Pouring in for Skerritt Family

Residents of North Branford and nearby communities are showing their support for a family who lost their home and possessions to a fire.

Several bags of donated items have already been delivered to the Skerritt family, who and the donations table at the is filling up again.

Clothing, toiletries, arts and crafts items, books, magazines and even a luggage set cover the table. Local businesses including , and have donated goods or gift cards. 

also shared that has donated a $1,000 gift card to Kohl's and a $500 gift certificate to Stop&Shop after speaking with Marilyn Skerritt about the family's immediate needs.

Donations can be dropped off at the Community Center, which is open 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday; 5:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays; and 7 a.m. to noon on Saturdays and Sundays. You can also call Chrissy at 203-433-4181 or Jennifer D'Addio at 203-314-2382 to pick items up from your house. Gift cards can be sent to , care of Jennifer D'Addio, NBIS PTO, 654 Foxon Road, North Branford, CT 06471.

At the May 1 Town Council meeting, Mayor Anthony Candelora also addressed the situation.

"Thank God the family and pets are safe, however, they lost all their possessions and their home, said Candelora. "I happened to be driving by at the time and it happened so quickly. But again, our fire department did a great job."

Candelora said that the Town Manager's Office is also accepting gift cards and donations to help the Skerritt's immediate needs.
