The town's Department of Finance is responsible for preparing the town's annual budget and capital improvements plans and the recording and accounting of all financial transactions involving the town. The finance director, who is appointed by the Town Council and acts as the town chief financial officer, is also involved in the investment of trust and pension funds, the issuance of long-term bonded debt, workers' benefits administration and contract negotiations with town employees. The office employs four: the finance director, a staff accountant and two account clerks. The tax collector and assessor also report directly to the finance director.
