Jerome Harrison Students to Vets: "You're A Hero"

Students at North Branford's Jerome Harrison Elementary School ended an assembly about Veteran's Day with a tribute to the men and women who serve our country.

School was in session for North Branford on Veterans Day and administrators had nothing but positive things to say about what students got out of the day's activities (see video). At Jerome Harrison Elementary School, students learned about the different branches of our armed forces with veterans visiting the school and attending the assembly.  The assembly closed with Mrs. Humphrey, the school's music teacher, leading the students in a song honoring the veterans: "You're A Hero." The veterans then lined the hallway and students shook hands, high-fived and thanked them for their service as they returned to class. Assemblies were also held at Totoket Valley and North Branford High School, which will also be featured, while students at North…

Jerome Harrison Students Show off Their Costumes in Halloween Parade

Despite the frigid temperatures, the JHS Halloween parade was a success.

Cars packed the parking lot, flanked Route 80 and nearby side streets and parents and loved ones lined the fence around Jerome Harrison's field, braving the cold and waiting for the school's costume parade.  Characters from Sesame Street, including Principal Shawn Parkhurst as 'The Count,' led the parade down the sidewalk with Halloween music playing in the background. Students and teachers paraded around the field two times, giving onlookers plenty of chances to snap photos. Everyone was all smiles despite the cold as they showed off a wide variety of costumes. The teachers wore group costumes–with one group as bees complete with a beekeeper and another as Angry Birds. As for the students, there were princesses to pirates, soldiers to …

Teachers' Flash Mob Dance Surprises Students at Jerome Harrison Assembly

During the school's first assembly of the year, Jerome Harrison teachers busted out a flash mob dance, much to the students' delight!

The first week of school for students at Jerome Harrison was made that much more exciting on Sept. 9 when they saw a fun and spontaneous side of their teachers and Principal Shawn Parkhurst. Students were called to the gym for an all-school assembly on Friday afternoon where they began to go over the schools rules. Parkhurst first went over the KIND rules. He then told the students he was going to show them a video demonstrating the rules in action. When trying to start the video, Taio Cruz's 'Dynamite' began playing and all of the teachers gathered in front of the students to perform a flash mob dance (see video). The students were surprised and then many were clapping and cheering or singing and dancing along. At the end of the dance, …

Countdown to Back-to-School: Jerome Harrison Elementary School

Here are some things you need to know if you have a student heading to Jerome Harrison next week.

Due to the impact of Hurricane Irene, the first day of school for all students at Jerome Harrison Elementary School (JHS) is Tuesday, Sept. 6. All previously scheduled open houses and orientations have been canceled.  Students will report to school at the regularly scheduled time and meet with staff in the gym before heading to their classrooms. Parents of JHS students can also attend Back-to-School night on Wednesday, Sept. 7. The parents-only session will give teachers a chance to share information about the upcoming year and allow parents to ask questions. Stay up-to-date with all of JHS’s news on its website. One cool feature is the ‘Virtual backpack’, which posts all notices that are sent home so there’s no need to worry about a paper…
