Do You Think the Route 80/Route 139 Intersection Needs Illumination?

Several North Branford residents have voiced concerns over nighttime visibility at the new intersection of Route 80 and Route 139.

With the construction continuing on Route 80 in North Branford, some residents have voiced some safety concerns as the project moves along, including the illumination of the intersection of Route 80 and the new Route 139 at night.

In her weekly report, Interim Town Manager Bonnie Therrien addressed the issue in an email to Town Engineer Kurt Weiss on Feb. 22, saying, "At last night's Economic Development Committee meeting, everyone was complaining about how dark it is on Route 80 where it meets Route 139. Could they put a lighted cone until we get a streetlight there? Everyone said it is very dangerous at night."

Mayor Anthony Candelora has also expressed concern about the intersection, noting that several business owners have complained to him about the issue, as well.

Weiss responded that the illumination issue was discussed at the Feb. 27 DOT Construction Job meeting and has been referret to the DOT design engineers in Newington.
