North Branford Potato Fest Expands to Four-Day Event

The North Branford Corn & Potato Festival is set for Aug. 1 to 4, 2013.

Parks and Recreation Director Pam Gery approached the North Branford Town Council about expanding the North Branford Corn and Potato Festival to a four-day event, adding Thursday evening to the 2013 festivities. The event is schedule for Thursday, Aug. 1 through Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013.

“Thursday could be a winner considering we’re all set up and ready to go anyway,” said Gery. “Plus, it would be a good backup in case of rain.”

Gery also explained that it would a good way to increase the Fest’s revenue – which is taking an extra hit as the Touchdown Club will not be hosting the Cow Chip Raffle this year.

Councilor Rose Angeloni, who worked in the amusement ticket booth last year, suggested a wristband or discount system as “many of the complaints I heard were about how expensive the rides got.” Gery said it would be considered.

The extension to four days was approved unanimously by the Council.

The Council also approved the hiring of a part-time seasonal employee who will help with festival tasks at no more than $12 an hour, which will be paid from the fest’s fund.
