Meet Sefa Sekpan: Owner of Oregano's Pizza

Sefa Sekpan looked up from his own eggplant creation pleasantly surprised as I walked in unannounced, the dreary weather making for a very slow day. Goodfellas played on a television in the background, adding to the Italian nature of the eatery. Sekpan introduces himself, a heavy Turkish accent betraying his origins, as well as his business to North Branford.

North Branford Patch: What do you enjoy most doing business in North Branford?

Sefa Sekpan: I like that it’s quiet. It’s a small town, the people are nice–lots of Italians!

North Branford Patch: Are you from North Branford?

Sekpan: No, I’m from Turkey. I came here 22 years ago.

North Branford Patch: What makes your business unique?

Sekpan: We don’t just have pizza. We have pasta and seafood dishes, chicken dishes, calzones, lots of different salads. Everything is made from scratch and fresh. I make the sauces and dough myself.

North Branford Patch: What brought you into this business?

Sekpan: I love food! I like eating and I like cooking it myself.

North Branford Patch: What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Sekpan: There’s not a lot of time outside of work, but when I do have time I spend it with my two little kids. I’ll go to their games before work if I can, take them places when I can.

North Branford Patch: How do you give back to the community?

Sekpan: Oregano’s sponsors little league in North Branford.

North Branford Patch: What do you want your customers to know about your business?

Sekpan: We are North Branford’s best kept secret *laughs* behind this plaza here. I do all the cooking myself as the owner, so I put a lot of extra care into it.
