Little Quilts, Job Hunting and Other Activities

As I continue my job hunting, I have been trying to stay busy with other activities to keep me positive and motivated. The NBHS Thunderbird cheerleaders have started their official season so fundraising efforts are in full swing. Our carwash was a terrific success and we are already getting orders for pink bows to promote breast cancer awareness in October. As you know, the varsity cheer squad is small so we really appreciate the North Branford youth cheerleaders supporting our pink bow sale. I love this fundraiser because for every bow sold, we are donating one dollar to Matt's Mission. We are really hoping to give Matt's Mission a nice check October 1st!!
I am also working on what I call 'little quilts' - these are about 14" to 17" square and are done using a fused applique technique. Fused applique is great even if you don't sew, and the little quilts make great gifts - think mug rugs, small wall hangings, or even as unique gift cards. I tend to get my ideas for little quilts from applique books or children's coloring books, especially farm-themed ones. If you sew, use a narrow zigzag around the edges of each appliqued piece with fine cotton thread, or if you don't sew, make sure to use an extra hold fusible web. I call this collection "Things That Make You Go AWWWWW" - I think you will agree!
