Matt’s Mission board members voted unanimously to assist a local family who had fallen on hard times. On behalf of the family, I sent a check on December 12th to Wells Fargo Bank in Northford to make a payment towards a home equity line of credit which otherwise would be overdue. Two weeks later, my check hadn't cleared. I called Wells Fargo Bank asking for the manager, they never received my payment! In a panic I called the family we were attempting to help and explained the situation. Immediately I put a stop payment on that check paying a $30.00 bank fee to my own bank. Prior to issuing another check on January 8th I called the Wells Fargo Manager confirming their address asking her to be on the lookout for the now overdue payment UGH! By January 18th, once again the new check had not cleared! At this point I am upset and the bank manager is tired of my calls saying “I have no control over the mail”. I knew something was wrong and was now on my own mission to get to the bottom of it! I called the Northford Post Office perhaps they knew something I wasn't aware of and was told “the people who work at Wells Fargo Bank never empty their mailbox”. Could it be my checks were sitting in the Wells Fargo mail box right outside the bank? Feeling frustrated I once again called the manager. She was not happy to hear from me and was not particularly thrilled with my "attitude". She was just about to dismiss me by hanging up the phone when I said "Can I ask you a crazy question?" "Did you go out to the mailbox today to get your mail?” the Wells Fargo Bank manager then said “We don’t have a mail box, the letter carrier brings our mail in to the bank”. I told her "you do have a mail box and that the letter carrier only brings the mail inside the bank when the mailbox is overflowing! Unbelievable! Thankfully the mystery is solved! The checks were in the mail alright... In the MAIL BOX right outside of Wells Fargo Bank. I am not one to blog negative things but perhaps others have been charged late fees by Wells Fargo Bank? Now you know why!
