Woman Charged with Assaulting 12-Year-Old Girl

A 24-year-old woman allegedly attacked a 12-year-old girl for looking at her boyfriend.

On July 23, the North Branford Police Department responded to a call where a 24-year-old New Haven woman allegedly assaulted a 12-year-old girl, who was attending a family birthday party.

The assault reportedly took place when Candice Kiley accused the victim of looking at her 30-year-old boyfriend. The boyfriend was in the kitchen of the home cleaning up a spill where the confrontation between Kiley and a 12-year-old guest of the party took place, police said.

Kiley, 24, of Howard Avenue, New Haven, reportedly accused the victim of looking at her boyfriend, saying that the victim had "been looking at him all day," then allegedly grabbed her by the hair and threw her to the floor.

The 12-year-old sustained an injury from her head hitting the floor and then suffered an asthma attack, police said. The alleged assault was stopped when other family members heard the commotion and intervened.

Kiley was arrested on a warrant and charged with third-degree assault, disorderly conduct and risk of injury to a minor. She was released pending a court appearance on Aug. 23.
