Girls’ Track Beats Old Lyme, Falls to HK

The North Branford girls' track team competes against Shoreline Conference foes.

The traveled to Haddam to compete in a tri-meet against Shoreline Conference teams from Haddam-Killingworth and Lyme-Old Lyme. The T-Birds lost to Haddam Killingworth 105-35 and beat Lyme Old Lyme 65-53.  

Several athletes notched first-place finishes against both teams. Jessica Wharton was tops in the shot put with a throw of 28-2 ½ and the javelin at 70-1. Co-Captain Jordan Miket not only won the high jump, but was also a member of the victorious 4x100 relay team with Natalie Baughan,  Leah Martino and Katelyn Pantera, which ran a time of 54.2

“Natalie Baughan had an exceptional meet,” said Coach Floyd Parness as, in addition to being a member of the first-place 4x100 team, she also placed second against both teams in three additional events including the 100 (13.9), long jump (14-7), and the 200 (29.3).

Pantera also scored in the long jump (14-7), while Jaimy Rippe took points in both the discus (55-1) and shot put (26-1).
