NBHS Quartet Gives Big to St. Jude’s

As part of North Branford High School's Big Give, a team of three juniors and a sophomore are fundraising for St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Taking part in ’s Student Council’s has not been the first time Rachel Hernandez has been involved in charity work and fundraising. As president of the Interact Club, she had some experience in raising money for causes.

Teaming up with fellow juniors Courtney DelColle and Emmy Dulak, along with sophomore Natalie Baughan, the team decided to ‘give big’ to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

“It’s such a large cause and we felt very close to it in our hearts as many of our families have been affected by cancer,” said Hernandez.

The team has already exceeded its fundraising goal of $400 by hosting a bake sale at a T-Birds’ basketball game and soliciting donations from family and friends, who were “very generous,” according to Hernandez.

“It wasn’t about how much we raised, but just giving to the cause because we felt strongly about it,” said Hernandez. “It feels good to give back and I’m excited for the banquet to see what other people raised.”

In addition to raising money for an important cause, Hernandez found other benefits in being involved in the school’s second .

“We learned how to be organized and use teamwork to get the most accomplished,” she said. “We also learned how great it was to give back and how good it felt.”
