North Branford Girls’ Track Goes 3-1 Last Week

T-Birds' athletes continue to qualify for the postseason.

With the postseason meets quickly approaching, the was busy last week with tri-meets on both May 16 and May 18, going 3-1 through the week.

On May 16 at Old Lyme, North Branford fell to Old Saybrook 107-25 but topped host Old Lyme 81-41. Katelyn Pantera was victorious in the long jump (14-6), while the 4x100 team of Natalie Baughan, co-captain Jordan Miket, Pantera and Leah Martino was also victorious with a time of 54.46.

Second-place finishes against both teams were achieved by Miket in the high jump (4-4) and Rachel Boyers in the 100 hurdles (16.98). Several athletes placed third against both teams including Jamie Rippe in the shot put (24-6) and discus (71-4), Stephanie Torniero in the javelin (83-9), Miket in the 400 (1:05.68) and Baughan in the 200 (28.30).

On May 18, the T-Birds hosted Westbrook and Lyme-Old Lyme, beating Westbrook 90-36 and topping Old Lyme 98-15. Westbrook beat Old Lyme 54-29. North Branford had a strong meet with many athletes taking first against both teams, two qualifying for Shoreline Championship and two qualifying for states.

Pantera and Miket each took top honors with Pantera’s distance of 14-10 in the long jump and Miket clearing 4-8 in the high jump earning each athlete a place in the Class M State Championship.

Julie Castillo’s throw of 66-10 in the discus and Lea Martino’s mark of 27-4 in the triple jump were both good for Shoreline Conference Championship qualification.

Other first-place finishes included Baughnan in the 200 (28.27) and the 100 (13.47); Boyers in the 100 hurdles (17.17) and 300 hurdles (53.0) and Stephanie Torniero in the javelin (85-9).
