North Branford Indoor Track Runs in Winter Relays

On Dec. 28, the T-Birds' indoor track teams ran at the Hillhouse Winter Relays.

 

The North Branford High School indoor track teams competed at the Hillhouse Winter Relays on Dec. 28 at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven with more than 25 schools competing. All events in the meet were based on a relay format, including field events with scoring for the field events based on adding the top three scores in the event. 

There were several top-six finishes between the boys’ and girls’ teams, including the first-place finish of the boys’ 4x400 team of Matt Edwards, Ryan Proto, Alex Raffone and Gary Falanga with a time of 3:37.15.

The girls’ team saw two second-place finishes including the 1,600 sprint medley relay team of Rachel Boyers, Jordan Miket, Emmy Dulak and Maggie Dulak (4:43.46) and the 55-meter shuttle hurdle relay team of Boyers and Rachel Sokoloff (19.08). The 4x200 team of Miket, Emmy Dulak, Sara Olsen and Sokoloff was fourth (1:57.68).

Top finishes for the boys’ team were rounded out by the third-place shot put relay team of Rocco Morgan (44-7), Jim Griskauskas (34-1) and Dylan Baldino (33-3) and the sixth-place 4x800 team of Proto, Zack Augur, Edwards and Jason Conforte (9:06.01).

The T-Birds had many other athletes compete as well. For the boys, the 4x200 team of Falanga, Tyler Hawk, Andrew Sarmento and Nick Schneidt placed 10th (1:43.32); the 1600 SMR of Chris Kruglik, Bryce Mase, Raffone and Sarmento was 12th (4:14.12);.the long jump relay team of Michael Cermola (16-9), Hawk (15-9) and Nick Schneidt (13-3) finished 12th. The boys’ 4x400, 4x800 and 4x200 relays have now qualified for the Class S State Tournament.

On the girls’ side, the long jump relay team of Olsen (13-2), Leah Martino (11-1 ½) and Deanna Gallo (10-5 ½) placed eighth; the 4x800 team of Marissa Bale, Holly Dulak, Maggie Dulak and Jen Levine placed ninth (11:46.18); the shot put relay team of Melissa Agro (21-7), Julie Castillo (21-9) and Gallo (18-9) placed 13th; the 4x400 team of Holly Dulak, Levine, Martone and Allie Sanzari finished 17th (5:08.51); and the 55-meter shuttle hurdle relay team of Erika Chironno and Catie Moran was 20th (24.47). The girls 1,600 Sprint Medley Relay and 4x200 relay teams have now qualified for the Class S States Tournament.
