North Branford Indoor Track Celebrates 2012-13 Season

The T-Birds' indoor track team celebrated its many great accomplishments in 2012-13 at a season-ending banquet.

 
The North Branford High School indoor track team had its banquet on March 21, honoring seniors and captains, handing out awards and updating the school records plaque. Rachel Boyers, Matt Edwards, Jordan Miket, Rocco Morgan and Ryan Proto captained the 2012-13 team.  

In addition to the captains, seniors on this year's team include Dylan Baldino, Jason Conforte, Emmy Dulak, Gary Falanga, Jimmy Griskauskas, Sydney Lane, Jordan Miket and Alex Raffone.           

Over the course of the season the girls' team broke six school records with Rachel Boyers in the long jump and 55-meter hurdles, Emmy Dulak in the 300 and 600, the SMR team of Emmy Dulak, Maggie Dulak, Miket and Katie Stevens and the 4x200 relay team of Emmy Dulak, Miket, Sara Olsen and Jess Zumbo.

The boys' team also broke six school records with Matt Edwards in the 600 and 300, Rocco Morgan in the shot put, Ryan Proto in the 1,000, the 4x400 relay team of Edwards, Falanga, Raffone and Proto and the SMR team of Edwards, Falanga, Proto and Raffone.     

Team awards went to: 

  • Rookies of the Year Award: Shelby Franklin, Maggie Dulak and Holly Dulak
  • Desire and Dedication: Proto, Morgan, Miket and Emmy Dulak 
  • MVP: Boyers and Edwards
  • 4-Year “Chris” Award: Boyers, Miket, Conforte, Edwards, Falanga, Griskauskas and Proto

Shoreline Conference Championships
In the Shoreline Conference Championship, the boys' team came in second of 12 teams with 79 points and the girls were sixth out of 12 teams with 51.5 points.

Making First Team All-Shoreline by taking first in their respective events were Edwards in both the 300 (36.48) and in the 600 (1:27.16), Boyers in the 55m hurdles (8.93), Morgan in the shot put (44-10 3/4) and the 4x400 team of Edwards, Falanga, Proto and Raffone (3:36.26) with a record-breaking 3:36.26. 

Achieving Second Team All-Shoreline with second-place finishes were Raffone in the 300 (36.77), Rachel Sokoloff in the 55 (7.9) and the 1,600 SMR team of  Miket, Emmy Dulak, Maggie Dulak and Katie Stevens (4:37.99).
         
Class S State Championships
In the Class S State Championship, the boys placed third with 33 points and the girls finished in ninth place with 18 points. Boyers made Class S All-State in the 55 hurdles by taking first place (8.83) to break a school record in doing so. The boys 4x400 team of Edwards, Falanga, Proto and Raffone also made All-State by taking first (3:33.43) for a school record. 

Edwards broke two additional school records by taking second in both the 300 (36.42) and in the 600 (1:25.25). Emmy Dulak took second place in the 600 (1:40.98), Raffone was third in the 300m (36.82) and Morgan broke a school record by taking sixth in the shot put (46-5). 

State Open
On an individual basis Edwards, Boyers, Morgan, Emmy Dulak and the boys' 4x400 team qualified for the State Opens in their respective events where school records were broken once again.  

Boyers came in third place in the 55 hurdles at 8.72, Edwards came in fifth in the 600 at 1:24.62 and the 4x400m Relay Team of Edwards, Falanga, Raffone and Proto placed fourth at 3:30.08.  

New England Interscholastic Championship
North Branford qualified and entered in three events at the 26th Annual New England Interscholastic Championship Track Meet. Boyers came in 15th in the 55 hurdles and Edwards came in 12th in the 600.

The boys 4x400 relay team of Raffone, Falanga, Proto and Edwards were sixth with a school record-breaking time of 3:27.79, which qualified them for the New Balance Emerging Elite Division National Championship at the New Balance Armory in New York where they placed 24th out of 37 teams with a time of 3:29.40.
