T-Birds' Football Opens Season by Shutting Out HK

North Branford football cruised to a 39-0 victory over Haddam-Killingworth on Sept. 12.

Coming off a stellar 2012 season that ended in the state finals, the North Branford football team got right back to its winning ways in 2013 with a season-opening 39-0 win over Haddam-Killingworth.

North Branford came out hard, scoring four touchdowns in the first quarter alone. Josh Melaccio was the first to light up the scoreboard with a 25-yard TD run. QB Eddie Miller then connected with Austin Calamita on a 49-yard pass with Shelby Franklin running in the two-point conversion.

Melaccio then struck again, this time from 29 yards out. Miller's 20-yard QB keeper put North Branford up 27-0.

Before the half, Melaccio ran in his third score of the game from 15 yards out and in the third quarter, his 56-yard touchdown run closed out the scoring for the contest.

Melaccio totaled 171 rushing yards against HK. Cory Seymour added 39 and Miller had 35. Miller was 6-for-8 passing.

Nick Sagnella (9 tackles), Mike Kaiser (8 tackles) and Lou Distasio (7 tackles) led the defense with John Burke and Jake Sidle each chipping in five apiece. George Poleschuk had two tackles and a sack.
